What is Scrapped?

Scrapped is student project developed at The Guildhall at SMU. Scrapped is a single player, third person, three-dimensional (3D) platformer incorporating magnetism-based challenges and environmental hazards developed for the PC using the Unreal 4 Engine.

Story Synopsis

After C-23’s creation, its shadowed testers conclude that the robot is "malfunctioning" and subsequently toss it down a trash chute into the endless heaps of scrap below. Alone and afraid, C-23's attention strays to a robotic light bug named Fritz. This bright mentor character illuminates the robot’s path through the hostile land filled with destructive machines and hazards.

As Fritz moves within the world, the light bug illuminates various graffiti-style messages that previously scrapped robots left on the walls and billboards. These illustrations depict a robot safe haven or settlement where C-23 has a chance at acceptance and safety.

The billboards, light bugs, and Fritz lead C-23 out of the main trash area, into a scrap recycling factory, and then through and out of a metal smelting foundry. Once free of the scrapyard’s perils, C-23 reaches the edge of the robot village. As the sun slowly rises, C-23 finally reaches the Robot Village.

C-23

C-23 is the 23rd prototype of an industrial robot built around a powerful electromagnet. Shortly after its creation, C-23 goes through a rigorous testing process and end up being scrapped to an enourmous scrapyard. Once in the scrapyard, signage left behind by previous robots inspires a strong desire within C-23 to find others of its kind—some might ascribe this to its magnetic personality.
